This is a role suited for an ambitious professional wanting to solve complex problems and develop state of the art Satellite Operations Control Center (SOCC) for large constellations.

Tasks & Responsibilities
  • Design of a SOCC architecture that is highly configurable, reusable, and adaptable to meet customer requirements and operational needs.
  • Conduct analyses to contribute to SOCC architecture and design, including make-buy decisions.
  • Develop and generate deliverable documents such as engineering plans, requirements specifications, interface control documents, and operational concepts.
  • Development and maintenance of requirements for satellite operations at mission, SOCC, and SOCC sub-system levels.
  • Development of RFPs and SOWs for sub-contracted portions of the design.
  • Review design, build, and test material provided by subcontractors to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Development of integration, verification, and validation plans and procedures.
  • Technical oversight of integration, verification, and validation activities.
  • Engage with other teams, functions, and subcontractors to ensure issues affecting the SOCC are resolved throughout all phases of design, development, test, and commissioning.
  • Responsible for the development of SOCC training plans and the oversight of their execution.
  • Lead commissioning teams (including travel globally to customer sites) to address issues, contribute to customer operator training, and participate in Launch and Early Operations (LEOP).
  • Mentor and coach team members.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communications skills in English; knowledge of French will be considered favorably.
  • Support the spacecraft operations team in critical phases.
Required Qualifications
  • Degree or advanced degree in engineering or physics, preferably in aerospace, electrical engineering, or space science.
  • At least 10 years of experience in a space systems development or operations environment, especially with Satellite Operations Control Centers (SOCCs).
  • Familiarity with satellite operations and the different components of a SOCC.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity standards and principles including identity, access, and management (IAM), data communication, data storage, etc.
  • Experience in systems or software development of large, complex, mission-critical systems.
  • Experience working across contractual boundaries and directly with supplier teams in developing, integrating, and testing software.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills; capable of managing priorities, initiating activities, developing execution plans, and executing schedules with agility in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and as part of a dynamic team.
  • Passion for innovation.
  • Ability to travel globally for LEOP and SOCC commissioning.
  • A team-friendly attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Familiarity with software tools such as Matlab, Python or other scripting languages, MS Excel, and Requirements Management tools like DOORS/Windchill/Jama.
  • Experience with RF antenna communications, automated satellite operations, and simulation software is an asset.
  • Experience leading and coaching a technical team.
