Job Summary :

The Locomotive Mechanical Engineer is responsible for diagnosing, designing, testing, and improving the mechanical systems of locomotives. This role plays a key part in troubleshooting, refurbishment, component integration, and the development of technical solutions in collaboration with internal teams and external partners. This position requires strong technical expertise, high attention to detail, and excellent teamwork skills.

Key Responsibilities :

Overhaul and Troubleshooting :

  • Provide expertise in troubleshooting mechanical issues with locomotives, such as malfunctions in engines, compressors, cooling systems, and trucks.
  • Identify problematic systems / parts to ascertain performance failures using diagnostic and faultfinding techniques.
  • Prepare documentation for the inspection, qualification, and rebuild of locomotive systems.

Design and Development :

  • Participate in the design of the integration of locomotive sub-systems and structure.
  • Develop schematics, diagrams, layouts, drawings, and 3D models.

Testing and Validation :

  • Plan tests on locomotives or their subsystems at suppliers' sites.
  • Coordinate documentation, instrumentation, and testing activities.
  • Ensure the integration of required standards into the design and testing processes.
  • Design and execute specific test setups.
  • Provide technical expertise and analyze test results.
  • Write test reports and make relevant recommendations.
  • Ensure the quality of measurement and testing equipment.

Collaboration and Communication :

  • Participate in meetings with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments and provide technical support.
  • Guide and mentor technicians towards solutions.

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Member of the OIQ.
  • Significant experience in railway rolling stock or mass rail transit.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Ability to interpret diesel engine manuals, locomotive schematics, service bulletins, and maintenance instructions.
  • Ability to understand FRA and company rules, specifications, and guidelines.
  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and rigor.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage priorities effectively.
  • Analytical skills, autonomy, and good interpersonal skills.
  • Customer-oriented attitude.
  • Fluent in French and English, both oral and written.
