CAD Railway Industries is an ambitious Quebec-based company that has been in operation for over 60 years. We specialize in the repair, conversion, and reconditioning of rolling stock equipment (freight and passenger railcars and locomotives of all types), with workshops and offices located in Montreal (Lachine area) and Alberta (under the Caltrax banner).

Over the years, our mission has evolved to become a responsible company that aims not only to repair and extend the life of the equipment entrusted to us by our clients, but also, in many cases, to modernize it and quite literally give it a second life.

In their projects, our teams focus on designing equipment tailored to the specific needs of our clients, who operate in both freight and passenger sectors.

POSITION PURPOSE

Under the supervision of the Director of Engineering, the incumbent of this position will work closely with our operations teams to support the design, development, and integration of high-voltage electrical systems for our various engineering projects across Canada and the United States. On an ongoing basis, they will also be responsible for providing technical support to the different departments involved in the advancement and execution of these projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Overhaul and Troubleshooting:

  • Provide expertise in troubleshooting electrical issues with locomotives, including malfunctions in traction motors, generators, control systems, and other electrical components.
  • Identify problematic systems/parts to ascertain performance failures using diagnostic and faultfinding techniques.
  • Prepare documentation for the inspection, qualification and rebuild of locomotive systems.

Design and Development:

  • Participate in the design of electrical systems.
  • Participate in the design of control logic.
  • Develop schematics, diagrams, and electrical layouts.
  • Select electrical components.
  • Produce wiring lists that comply with the physical layout of the equipment.

Testing:

  • Plan electrical tests on locomotives or their subsystems at suppliers' sites.
  • Documentation, instrumentation, and test coordination.
  • Ensure the integration of required standards into the design and execution of tests.
  • Design and test various specific test setups.
  • Provide technical expertise and analyze test results.
  • Write test reports and make relevant recommendations.
  • Ensure the quality of measurement and testing equipment.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Participate in meetings with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments and provide technical support.
  • Provide technical guidance to other team members.
  • Guide technicians toward solutions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
  • Member of the OIQ.
  • Significant experience in the field of railway rolling stock or mass rail transit.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft; AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Ability to read with accuracy diesel engine manuals, locomotive schematics, service bulletins, maintenance instructions and other craft related documentation.
  • Ability to read and understand FRA and company rules, specifications and guidelines.
  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and rigor.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage priorities well.
  • Attention to detail, precision, analytical skills, autonomy, and good interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent command of French and English, both oral and written.
