Reports To: Site Supervisor
Location: Strathlorne, NS
Position: Full-Time (40 hours per week)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Municipality of the County of Inverness is seeking a dedicated and safety-consciousTruck Driver / Maintenance Labourerto join our Public Works team. This position involves the maintenance and repair of municipal infrastructure and requires physical effort, agility, and a strong commitment to teamwork and safety. The successful candidate must hold avalid Class 1 Driver’s License, (Class 3 will be considered)and be prepared to work in various weather conditions, travel to multiple sites, and respond to emergency situations outside regular hours, including evenings and weekends.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Operate municipal vehicles and equipment, including dump trucks, plow trucks, and trailers.
• Transport heavy equipment to and from worksites.
• Perform maintenance and repair of municipal infrastructure, including water/wastewater systems, sidewalks, manholes, and valves.
• Complete sidewalk snow removal (shoveling, plowing, salting).
• Assist with sewer and water hook-ups, shutoff repairs, and asphalt/sidewalk restoration.
• Conduct pre-trip inspections, maintain logs, and report vehicle maintenance needs.
• Set up traffic control devices and signage in accordance with safety standards.
• Participate in daily safety meetings, job assessments, and toolbox talks.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the service bay and work areas.
• Support the Buildings and Grounds team as needed.
• Respond to emergency maintenance calls and perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
• Experience in municipal sewer & water systems, road construction, and utility operations.
• Familiarity with Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Act and the National Safety Code.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and maintain accurate records.


QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED). Post-Secondary training in a related trade would be considered an asset.
• Valid Class 1 Driver’s License with clean driver’s abstract is required.
• Endorsement 15 (or willingness to obtain).
• Certificates (or willingness to obtain)
o Standard First Aid
o Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHIMIS)
o Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)
o Working from Heights and Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO)
o Traffic Control Person and Signer
o Confined Space Entry
o Occupational Health and Safety Acts and Regulations

SAFETY:
• Ensure all policies and procedures set forth by the Municipality of the County of Inverness are always observed.
• Report all work situations which are suspected of being unhealthy or unsafe.
• Report any employee whose on-the-job performance or actions contravenes established safety procedures or work practices.
• Report all near-misses and incidents immediately.
• Report related injuries or property damage regardless of severity.
• Submit reports on accidents and other hazardous conditions discovered and promptly attend to all hazardous situations.
