Job Summary

CCTB is currently seeking an experienced professional Instructor to teach a module in the Database Developer Analyst Diploma Program .

Responsibilities

• Create an exhilarating learning environment for students in the IT Program.
• Develop and deliver an effective learning environment using available resources, incorporating various teaching / learning methods to meet the course objectives.
• Manage lesson planning, assignments, class, and overall course assessment of the students’ work while ensuring students’ awareness of course objectives and CCTB’s expectations.
• Guide class discussions while encouraging debate and feedback from students.
• Challenge ideas, encouraging students to develop skills and knowledge in critical and rational thinking.
• Manage, coordinate, and mentor students’ engagement in various cutting-edge technology research and development projects.
• Engage students by tutoring and providing academic counseling while offering constructive feedback and encouragement when needed.
• Provide academic support to students inside and outside of the classroom (regularly scheduled office hours, email, group study sessions, etc.).
• Attend and participate in department and faculty meetings relevant to faculty responsibilities.
• Conduct further research into their specific field of knowledge.

Education and Experience

• A master’s degree from a recognized University in a relevant discipline or other relevant qualification in the field of Data Science or IT is required.
• Minimum 5 years of teaching experience in the post-secondary environment or equivalent work experience in a related field or combination of both.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional and current experience in the data science industry, including but not limited to data integration, data management, data warehousing, and reporting, big data analytics.
• Experience with building predictive and prescriptive models in a business setting (i.e., regression, decision trees, deep learning, etc.).

Knowledge and Skills

• Comfortable writing complex SQL queries to extract and integrate data from multiple database sources.
• Use Tableau Desktop and other visualization tools to rapidly generate impactful, interactive visualizations.
• Take the lead on the visual design for the class to ensure students are presented with best practices and that dashboards are as usable, elegant, and attractive as possible.
• Ability to explain dashboard projects to students from start to finish.
• Regularly demonstrate and implement the numerous capabilities of Tableau Desktop and other visualization tools, such as multi-source dashboards, data blending, table calculations, advanced calculated fields, advanced statistical analysis, guided analytics, custom geocoding, etc.
• Previous curriculum and program development experience is considered an asset.
• Proven experience supervising students, providing support and feedback in constructive and meaningful manners is highly desirable.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to communicate complex information to students both orally and in writing in an understandable manner.
• Demonstrate a commitment to diversity and equality when interacting with students and colleagues.
• Capable of working independently as well as being part of a team.
• Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and deliver on scheduled deadlines.
