Job summary

The City of Saskatoon is seeking an Information Technology Coordinator - Networks to lead planning and secure integration of the City’s core network infrastructure. You will oversee network security, wireless infrastructure, and corporate networking initiatives to ensure reliable technology resources.

You will manage a team, provide guidance, and stay current with evolving tech and security practices. The role is in the Digital Technology department, with a formal security check and a salary

Qualifications

  • Degree in computer science or related discipline.
  • Seven or more years in information technology services, including five years in network and security support.
  • Thorough knowledge of technical support requirements and project management.
  • Thorough knowledge of network security and data protection practices.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate the work of a technical team.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, analyses, and recommends strategies for implementing core network infrastructure components.
  • Plans, schedules, assigns, and coordinates the work of staff on digital infrastructure projects.
  • Performs the network security administrator role for corporate services.
  • Monitors resource utilization and performance trends; recommends hardware/software needs.
  • Evaluates new and revised application systems for integration with resources.
  • Provides technical guidance, assistance and training as required.
  • Maintains knowledge of technological advancements relevant to the department.
  • Offers leadership during network and infrastructure disruptions as needed.

Job Summary

This position provides leadership in planning, secure integration, and ongoing evolution of the City’s core network infrastructure. It ensures the efficient use of technology resources and oversees the implementation of corporate networking initiatives, including network security, communication networks, and wireless infrastructure.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Plans, analyses, and recommends strategies for implementing and integrating core network infrastructure components, including network security architectures, communication networks, wireless systems, system support software and hardware components.
  • Plans, schedules, assigns, and coordinates the work of staff assigned to digital infrastructure projects.
  • Performs the network security administrator role, including the planning, designing and implementation of corporate network security and associated services.
  • Monitors and evaluates resource utilization and system performance trends, providing recommendations for future hardware and software needs.
  • Evaluates new and revised application systems to ensure optimal integration with installed or planned technological resources. Supports the effective implementation and operation of these systems.
  • Provides technical guidance, assistance and training as required.
  • Maintains current knowledge of related technological advancements as they pertain to departmental and corporate requirements.
  • Provides technical leadership and coordination during network and infrastructure disruptions as required.
  • Interacts with vendor support personnel and other staff to facilitate hardware and software problem resolution.
  • Informs appropriate personnel of known hardware/software errors or deficiencies and their possible effect on program execution.
  • Assists in the development of Digital Technology policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience Requirements

  • Degree in computer science or a related discipline.
  • Seven or more years of experience in information technology services, including five years’ experience in network and security support.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of technical support requirements and project management.
  • Thorough knowledge of the operational and technical characteristics of communication networks, network security, and data protection practices.
  • Considerable knowledge in the following areas:
    • IPv4/IPv6 and TCP/IP; VLANs, routing and switching; DNS/DDNS and DHCP; enterprise wireless; network access control and segmentation;next-gen firewalls, IDS/IPS, and VPN; MPLS/SD-WAN;network monitoring (SNMP, NetFlow, syslog) and configuration management;foundational cloud/data-centre networking concepts
  • Ability to plan and coordinate the work of a technical team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships across all levels of the organization and with external partners.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear documentation and deliver effective presentations.
Requires Security Check

Ability to pass the Saskatoon Police Service security clearance process.

Weekly Hours:36.67

Salary Range:$93,293.52to$109,486.56 CADper annum (2026 rates). An annual supplement of $13,790.88 on top of the regular annual rate will also apply.
