POSITION OVERVIEW

As the Manager, Information & Privacy, you will ensure delivery of the full range of services within the Information and Privacy Department and lead the team to oversee the organization’s compliance with legislation including the Health Information Act (HIA), the Access to Information Act (ATIA), the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), and other relevant legislation. You will provide strategic advice and guidance to leaders across the organization in an evolving complex care and technology environment. You will bring a strong knowledge and skillset around information and privacy legislation, data security, risk management, collaboration, and cross-functional teaming, and be influential within an integrated leadership team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Formal & Informal Leadership: Lead and manage the team’s day-to-day activities, assign workload to meet legislative requirements and organizational priorities, and provide guidance and advice to members of the Information & Privacy team.
  2. Manage Complexities: Complete or oversee complex file work including responding to privacy breaches, Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) support, and providing operational advice.
  3. Privacy Education and Training: Ensure comprehensive privacy education and training is available for all staff. Conduct ad-hoc in-person training/education when necessary or requested.
  4. Risk Management: Complete an annual organizational risk assessment; report regularly on team activities, flag issues of risk and high sensitivity, and make recommendations for executive decision-making.
  5. Stakeholders’ Management: Act as the primary organizational contact for OIPC, AHS, AH, Provincial Health Agencies, Professional Colleges, and other external agencies regarding information and privacy matters. Provide advice and liaise with external organizations, Covenant Care, Covenant Living, and the Covenant Foundation.
  6. Process/Practice Improvement: Monitor emerging information access and privacy issues, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop and implement projects to enhance the organization’s capacity to protect privacy.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Education: A post-secondary degree in Legal Studies, Information Management, or Business/Public Administration (equivalencies may be considered).
  • Experience: 8-10 years in an Information Privacy or Security role, with 3-5 years leading teams and services. In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation and organizational policies.
  • Skills: Knowledge of issues and trends, legislative principles, privacy breach investigation, Privacy Impact Assessments, and complex file management. Strong investigation, analysis, problem-solving, organization, and communication skills.
  • Tools: Experience with Connect Care or large-scale EMRs/EHRs across multiple facilities.
  • Leadership: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team leadership skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Strategic Stakeholder Engagement: Strong relationship-building skills to support organizational goals.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Ability to work closely with HR, leadership, and other stakeholder groups to promote a unified privacy approach.
  • Passion: Commitment to healthcare improvement, privacy, and organizational culture.
  • Business Acumen and Resilience: Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to change, and stay aligned with organizational goals.
