Duties

Key Activities of this position :

  1. Implements front-end updates as delegated.
  2. Conducts front-end accessibility testing as required.
  3. Participates in UI / UX testing in collaboration with other library stakeholders.
  4. Implements integrated library system (ILS) template changes.
  5. Proposes ILS workflow changes and procedural updates based on documented observations.
  6. Assists with batch updates to bibliographic records as appropriate.
  7. Provides backup coverage for library systems and electronic resources vendor-relations.
  8. Collaborates with immediate supervisor to develop requirements for library systems.
  9. Implements library technology procedures.
  10. Assists immediate supervisor with library technology configuration and maintenance.
  11. Maintains awareness of changes to standards in relevant technologies (web design, accessibility, library technologies).
  12. Collects and contributes to analysis of statistical data from library systems.
  13. Populates data products created by immediate supervisor.
  14. Provides input on statistical program changes based on experience.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one (1) position indeterminately with an English essential linguistic profile. A pool of fully assessed candidates may be established to staff similar positions within the Department of Justice with various tenure, various linguistic profiles, various operational requirements and / or various conditions of employment. Upon request, this pool may also be shared with other federal organizations listed in Schedules I, IV and V of the Financial Administration Act (FAA) to staff similar positions in their organization.

EDUCATION :

ED1 - Successful completion of two years of a post-secondary program with acceptable specialization in social science, statistics, library / archival work or a law-related field OR, an acceptable combination of education, training and / or experience.

EXPERIENCE :

EX1 : Experience with the creation or management of metadata in a highly automated computer environment.

EX3 : Experience in providing support in the configuration or design of systems.

The following will be applied / assessed at a later date (essential for the job)

KNOWLEDGE :

K1 : Knowledge of bibliographic systems and standards.

COMPETENCIES :

CO1 : Demonstrating integrity and respect

ABILITIES :

A1 : Ability to communicate in writing

A2 : Ability to communicate orally

AED1 : Library technician diploma

AEX1 : Experience processing metadata in an Integrated Library System (ILS).

AEX2 : Experience conducting user research and testing.

AK1 : Knowledge of modern version control and collaboration environments (e.g. GitHub)

AK2 : Knowledge of the main functions and purpose of an Integrated Library System (ILS)

AK3 : Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and other accessibility standards.
