Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. in Calgary region is seeking a safety-conscious driver to operate a roll-off truck with a pup trailer and a flatbed truck equipped with a forklift for bin collection.

You will safely and courteously provide waste removal services, collecting waste from customer sites and transporting to post-collection facilities for proper disposal. The role requires a Class 1 license with a clean abstract and experience with roll-off trucks, pup trailers, and heavy equipment in mine-site

Qualifications

• Valid Class 1 Driver's License with a clean abstract for the past 5 years.
• Manual transmission experience is an asset.
• Experience operating roll-off trucks is preferred; pup trailers are a significant asset.
• Mine site heavy equipment operation experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate roll-off truck with pup trailer and flatbed with a truck-mounted forklift for bin collection.
• Safely collect waste from customer sites and transport to disposal facilities.
• Perform pre-trip/post-trip inspections and complete required documentation.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and report accidents or incidents promptly.
• Adhere to safety standards and company rules at all times.
• Communicate hazards and mechanical issues to supervisors promptly.
• Support routing efficiency improvements and attend safety meetings.
• Work overtime as required.

Job description

Summary

The successful candidate will operate a roll-off truck with a pup trailer, as well as a flatbed truck equipped with a truck-mounted forklift for bin collection. The Driver will be responsible for safely, efficiently, and courteously providing waste removal services in Sparwood, BC region. The Driver will collect waste from customer sites and transport to post-collection facilities for proper disposal.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Follow all safety standards, equipment checks and precautions in performance of all duties.

• Complete pre-trip and post-trip safety lane inspections and reports, daily truck report, route sheets and other documentation requested by supervisor daily.

• Comply with all federal, state/provincial, local and company rules on safety and vehicle operation including any required customer specific rules or regulations.

• Communicate any potential hazards in serving/picking up containers to Supervisor/Lead prior to performing tasks.

• Communicate vehicle mechanical problems to mechanics and supervisor immediately.

• Maintain route quality standards as predetermined by management.

• Operate truck and equipment using prescribed techniques to eliminate driver-induced mechanical failures.

• Maintain a clean vehicle by cleaning the cab interior and exterior of the vehicle.

• Report all accidents or incidents to supervisor(s) immediately.

• Exhibit a professional demeanor, manner and appearance at all times (i.e., meeting customers and/or the general public while on route or in uniform.)

• Ensure that all required personal protective equipment be worn at all times (i.e., gloves, reflective vest, safety glasses, work boots, etc.)

• Maintain accurate records of services performed.

• Work closely with the supervisor to improve routing efficiencies.

• Attend safety and branch meetings.

• May be required to work overtime as required.

• Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management.

Experience, Qualifications & Education

• Valid Class 1 Drivers License; with a fairly clean Commercial Drivers Abstract for the past 5 years.

• Ability to operate manual transmission is an asset.

• Experience operating roll-off trucks is preferred; proficiency with pup trailers is considered a significant asset.

• Demonstrated experience operating heavy equipment in a mine site environment.
