Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Industrial Hygienist will leverage the use of anticipation, recognition, evaluation, prevention, and control of workplace hazards or stressors which may cause impaired health and well-being or significant discomfort among workers and the community. The Hygienist will take ownership of the Industrial Hygiene program by managing the collection, analysis, and control of workplace health hazards. This includes reviewing and leading implementation of control measures; conducting training in Health, Safety & Environment accident prevention; developing and presenting reports for senior leadership and working with external agencies and regulators. Furthermore, to facilitate the CSC contract, the Hygienist will support the development of new processes for proactive mitigation of exposure risk(s).
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, direct and complete exposure assessments by collecting, measuring, and analyzing samples of workplace conditions such as air, water, dust, vapors, fumes, gases, mists, heat, cold, noise, and radiation.
  • Provide expertise on the mitigation of exposure hazards, leading and directing the implantation of control plans to ensure regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Protect team members by conducting training in Health, Safety & Environment controls, accident prevention, and use of personal protective equipment.
  • Provides safety information by documenting workplace conditions; analyzing and summarizing hygiene data and trends; and outlining improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with legal regulations including DOLAE and ACGIH by developing and enforcing standards and procedures.
  • Guides staff actions by researching, developing, writing, and updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines.
  • Prepares industrial hygiene information for all levels of the organization by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing assessment results and industry best practices.
  • Improve industrial hygiene job knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; and participating in professional societies.
  • Contribute to industrial hygiene and organization success by welcoming related, different, and new requests; helping others accomplish job results.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to the HSE Team and production stakeholders on the assessment and control of workplace health hazards.
  • Maintain record of exposure assessments, ensuring workplace exposure to physical, chemical, biological, and ergonomic hazards are documented and available, mitigating risk of onset occupational illnesses.
  • Work with external agencies and industry partners to establish best practice and continuously improve workplace and community health.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in science or engineering required.
  • Master's degree in occupational Hygiene or Industrial Hygiene a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of industrial hygiene procedures and application of occupational health standards.
  • Knowledge of patient rights and laws relative to those rights, such as HIPAA.
  • Qualified or pursuing qualifications as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Registered Occupation Hygienist (ROH).
  • 2-5 years' experience working in the environment, health, and safety field.
  • Experience with sampling equipment, use of sample protocols, and statistical analysis techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to build comprehensive reports and effectively convey information to others.
