A leading company in shipbuilding is seeking an Industrial Engineering co-op student to enhance their practical skills while engaging in projects that require analytical problem-solving and effective stakeholder management. The co-op student will work under guidance to improve processes in a dynamic environment, gaining valuable experience in technical and business aspects of engineering.
An Industrial Engineering co-op student assists with designing, planning, and executing improvements to the processes, tools, workstations, and equipment needed for high quality, efficient ship construction, delivery, and repair. Co-op students develop and apply practical job knowledge obtained through a combination of training, coaching, and work experience in a technical, process-oriented environment.
The co-op student works independently with structured coaching from a team leader, problems faced are mostly simple and can support intermediate and complex projects with support. A scientific methodology is used to analyze problems, identify root causes to the problem, test solutions, and standardize successful solutions. A co-op student develops the skill to influence stakeholders with a structured change management methodology and explanation of facts, policies, and practices. They will be expected to work in an assigned job scope in theoretical, practical, and/or six sigma methodologies in a shipbuilding environment. The co-op student is expected to work in an assigned job scope as defined in the Industrial Engineering Management Plan, Irving Way of Shipbuilding, and Continuous Improvement Framework.
