Job summary

Emera Inc. seeks an Electrician (Industrial) to join the Power Production team on a temporary, full-time basis in Cape Breton. The role involves routine electrical maintenance tasks, promoting safety, and participating in training programs. Salary: $52.22 per hour, as per the NSPI/IBEW Collective Agreement
Type of Employment:Temporary, Full Time - On- site

We are currently looking for an Electrician (Industrial)- Labor Pool to join our Power Productionteam in a flexible term labor pool position. Reporting to the Controls Supervisor,you will perform all aspects of routine electrical maintenance and repair work on equipment throughout the generating station.

As an Electrician (Industrial) - Labor Pool:

  • You must be able to work effectively as a member of the Electrical and Instrumentation Team and be capable of functioning in a planned work environment.
  • You may be temporarily assigned to other locations to assist other areas when required and will be expected to travel throughout the province.
  • You will be required to participate in regulatory training and be willing to participate in on-the-job training or training programs that support the development of additional skills.
  • You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
  • You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.

This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.

You recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and where possible possess the skills and experience listed below:

  • Certification as a Journeyperson IndustrialElectricianwith a minimum of two (2) years’ experience with troubleshooting electrical equipment as found in a generating station is required. You have proven problem resolution skills and the flexibility and ability to adapt to rescheduled assignments.
  • You must be a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills, a strong computer aptitude and the ability to deal with multiple tasks and demands.
  • You must have the skills and physical capabilities to perform all duties.
  • If no qualified applicants apply, there may be consideration for applicants in an apprenticeship program.

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities

  • Must be able to lift 70 lbs. from the floor to waist level on an occasional basis and 70 lbs. from shoulder to overhead level on a minimal basis. Able to carry 70 lbs. with both hands on a minimal basis, with the overall ability to carry 30 lbs. on an occasional basis.
  • Able to push and pull 50 lbs. with whole body strength and be able to push and pull 100 lbs. with upper body strength on an occasional basis.
  • Perform static reaching at waist to above shoulder level on a frequent basis and from below waist level on an occasional basis.
  • Perform frequent standing and twisting. Perform occasional walking and neck flexion and rotation movements.
  • Perform sitting, squatting, kneeling, crouching, climbing, bending, stooping, and forward flexional movements on a minimal basis.
  • Ability to perform fine finger manipulation and possess a simple to firm grasp while performing turning and pinching motions.
