Job summary

Johnson Electric in Ancaster, Ontario, is seeking an Operations Technician – Electrician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, test and repair industrial electrical and electronic equipment and control systems. You will advance equipment reliability, mentor apprentices, and report to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Strong knowledge of PLCs, CNC controls, robotics, VFDs, and CMMS/EAM usage is required; safe work practices and compliance with codes are essential.

Qualifications

• Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Certificate of Qualification as an Electrician (442A and/or 309A) in good standing.
• Completion of a recognized Electrician Apprenticeship.
• 1 to 5 years of post‑qualification industrial electrical maintenance experience.
• Demonstrated experience troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing electrical and control systems in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Experience with PLC‑based and automated equipment is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of industrial electrical equipment and control systems, including motors, transformers, power distribution, wiring, switches, sensors, alarms, and safety devices.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose complex electrical malfunctions involving PLCs, CNC controls, robotics, automation equipment, variable frequency drives (VFDs), servo drives, and control networks, and implement corrective actions.
• Install, program, calibrate, test, and maintain PLCs and related automation equipment per technical specs.
• Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, manuals, and drawings to perform installations, modifications, and repairs and propose improvements.
• Develop, perform, and document preventative maintenance activities to support reliability and minimize downtime.
• Test electrical systems to ensure safe, efficient, and code‑compliant operation; ensure proper grounding and shielding.
• Support capital projects, new equipment installations, start‑ups, commissioning activities, and equipment upgrades.
• Coordinate and oversee external contractors performing electrical work; inspect for compliance with standards and safety codes.
• Use CMMS/EAM to record work, update orders, track history, and assist with parts sourcing.
• Assist in training and mentoring apprentices and junior electricians.
