Job summary

Apex Aluminum Extrusions in Langley, BC is seeking an Engineering Technologist to program, integrate, and optimize automated control systems across our manufacturing processes. You will work with cross-functional teams to improve production efficiency, reliability, and safety, reporting to the Engineering Manager.

The role requires 3+ years in PLC programming, HMI work across RSLogix/Studio and FactoryTalk, and strong knowledge of SCADA and SQL.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years PLC programming and industrial automation experience, preferably in manufacturing.
• Proficiency with PLC platforms: Allen‑Bradley (RSLogix 500/5000, Studio 5000); Siemens (Step 7).
• HMI experience with FactoryTalk View, WinCC, Premium HMI, MapleSystems EBPro.
• Solid understanding of industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, etc.).
• SCADA experience and MS SQL knowledge.
• Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement PLC and HMI programs (Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent).
• Troubleshoot and optimize control systems to ensure reliable equipment operation.
• Maintain and document logic and control system changes; develop SCADA for plant monitoring.
• Integrate new machinery and upgrade existing systems while minimizing downtime.
• Collaborate with maintenance and production to resolve control‑related issues.
• Read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and P&ID drawings; support commissioning.
• Prepare technical documentation, risk assessments, and user manuals.
• Ensure compliance with electrical codes, safety standards, and best practices.
