Position: MYP Individuals & Societies / Social Studies Teacher (Senior School – Grades 8-12)

Position Reports to: Middle and Senior School Principal

Works Closely With: Principal, Middle/Senior School; Director of Student Resource Center, Director of Student Engagement

Compensation Salary Range: $56,570 – 106,930 based on experience

Position Overview:

Aspengrove School is seeking a passionate and dynamic MYP Individuals and Societies and BC Social Studies teacher to join our Senior School team (Grades 8–12). The ability to teach Physical and Health Education (PHE) will be considered a strong asset. As part of the role, the successful candidate will also be responsible for completing the final year of the IB Diploma Programme Geography course.

The ideal candidate will bring energy, curiosity, and a strong foundation in humanities education. They will demonstrate a commitment to helping students develop critical thinking skills, global awareness, and an understanding of historical and contemporary issues through engaging, inquiry-based learning.

We are looking for an educator who is enthusiastic about interdisciplinary learning, has experience teaching both IB MYP and BC curriculum, and is committed to fostering a classroom environment that encourages thoughtful discussion and reflection. The candidate should be collaborative, innovative, and eager to contribute to school life beyond the classroom.

Roles and Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Upholding the Professional Standards for BC Educators
  • Planning, delivering, assessing, and reporting on courses and programs aligned with approved BC and/or school curriculum as directed by the Principal
  • Collaborating with colleagues to support student learning and curricular alignment
  • Communicating proactively and clearly with parents and guardians
  • Accommodating the inclusive education needs of students, including implementing behaviour plans and Individual Education Plans
  • Participating in school life programs, including Support Block, Advisory, Outdoor School Days, Career Education, and Social-Emotional Learning
  • Creating co-curricular opportunities for students
  • Performing other duties as required

Required Knowledge and Skills

The qualities of the successful candidate include:

  • Familiarity with:
  • o Grade 12 BC Social Study Courses
  • o IB MYP Individual and Societies courses
  • Experience, education or training in inquiry-based learning pedagogies and universal design for learning strategies.
  • Superior skills in self-awareness, self-management and self-advocacy
  • Fluent communication skills in English, both oral and written
  • Strong organizational, communication, administrative and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team

Experience and Qualifications

  • Canadian residency and be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • A valid BC teaching certificate or Independent School Certification qualifying criteria
  • International Baccalaureate MYP and DP qualifications would be an asset.
  • Advanced Placement English course experience would be an asset.
