Job description

Athabasca University's Learning Services Tutorial Department is seeking an Individualized Study Tutor for the following courses, ending in 2027:
Qualifications and Experience Required:

A minimum of a Master's degree required (PhD preferred) with in-depth knowledge of Canadian healthcare and/or policy.

The successful candidate will have subject matter expertise and be responsible for providing academic assistance to students, marking assignments, and recording final grades. Teaching experience at a post-secondary level is required. Experience in distance learning, familiarity with digital teaching technologies, and online course delivery is preferred. Experience with adult education and Brightspace online course delivery is considered an asset.

Along with the relevant academic credentials, this position requires excellent communication, organizational, administrative, and online/computer skills. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to maintain high academic standards, accurate student records, and return students' work promptly within the University's service standards. Candidates must own or have access to a computer and internet with capabilities to communicate with the University and students, and to run necessary applications. Additional Notes:

First consideration will be given to internal applicants according to Article 7 of The Board/CUPE Collective Agreement, followed by those able to work from Alberta, then within Canada.

Compensation rates are as follows:

  • Non-doctoral employees: $243.25 prorated per block, per biweekly pay, or $31.01 per hour.
  • Doctoral employees: $252.98 prorated per block, per biweekly pay, or $32.24 per hour.
