Base pay range
CA$115,000.00/yr - CA$120,000.00/yr
Reporting to the Senior Tax Manager, the Manager of Indirect Tax is responsible for the organization’s indirect tax functions with primary focus on managing the day-to-day application of indirect taxes, compliance, planning and other projects.
Job Responsibilities
- Indirect tax compliance:
- Responsible for all indirect tax related compliance across Canada, including sales tax, excise tax, and other indirect taxes
- Collaborate with the Business Solutions Centre to ensure timely and accurate review and filing of all returns.
- Tax Audit: Manage commodity tax audits by preparing supporting documentation, responding to government/external auditors' inquiries, and resolving audit-related issues.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead the budgeting, forecasting, tracking and monitoring of indirect tax expenses.
- Legislative Monitoring: Stay abreast of commodity tax legislative changes and positions to ensure appropriate planning, compliance and reporting.
- Advise the business on indirect tax implications of various projects, transactions, and initiatives.
- Address commodity tax queries, conducting research, analyzing issues, and recommending solutions.
- Consultant Collaboration: Work with third-party consultants to manage tax recoveries and other tax incentives.
- Process Improvement: Proactively identify and develop opportunities to improve and automate tax processes, particularly through the use of technology.
- Relationship Building: Build strong relationships across the business to better understand key issues and proactively identify opportunities for tax savings and recoveries.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 2-3 years related tax experience in a CA firm or industry
- Strong technical knowledge of Canadian sales tax legislation
- Detail-oriented, organized and self-motivated to learn
- Strong planning, prioritization and time management skills
- ERP/SAP experience is preferred along with strong Excel skills
