Job summary

Science North in Ontario is offering an Indigenous Youth Programs Intern position on Ramsey Lake. The paid internship focuses on blending Western and Indigenous perspectives to create engaging science experiences for children, youth and families.

No prior experience required; this is a learning opportunity. You will contribute ideas, help develop workshops, support camps and after-school programs, and participate in mentorship and training.

Qualifications

• Interest in science, education, Indigenous knowledge, or youth programming.
• Able to commit part-time from October to June with flexible scheduling.
• On-site some activities, otherwise flexible/remote or hybrid.
• Most months involve 2–4 hours in 2 evenings plus ~7 hours of training.

Indigenous Youth Programs Intern

$18.45/hour

Are you curious about science, Indigenous knowledge, and creating positive experiences for young people?

Would you like to explore science through both Western and Indigenous perspectives while helping create meaningful experiences for children, youth and families? Based out of Science North on the beautiful shores of Ramsey Lake, this paid internship offers an opportunity to build career skills, share your ideas, connect with community, and contribute to culturally relevant science programming at Science North.

Whether you're interested in education, community engagement, science, or leadership development, this flexible opportunity provides valuable experience while supporting Indigenous initiatives and youth programming. No previous experience is required, just an interest in learning, contributing, and growing your skills.

We welcome applicants who are eager to learn and contribute. You do not need previous employment experience or a background in science to be successful in this role.

Position Highlights:

Qualifications:

• This internship is funded through a partnership emphasizing strong relationships with Atikameksheng Anishnawbek and Wahnapitae First Nation and is open to members of these communities. Applicants will be asked to self-identify as a member of Atikameksheng Anishnawbek or Wahnapitae First Nation.
• Able to commit to part-time participation between approximately October and June (flexible scheduling available)
• Other than some specific program delivery activities (near the end of the project) which must take place on site at Science North, the position offers flexible work which can be completed virtually or on-site
• Most months expect to spend 2-4 hours of time across 2 evenings
• Approximately 7 additional hours of training, completed at a flexible pace
• Up to 40 hours of in-person program delivery experience may be available through camps, PA Days, after-school programming, and special events
• Program delivery schedules will be developed collaboratively to accommodate your availability whenever possible
• Have an interest in science, education, community engagement, Indigenous knowledge, or youth programming
• Enjoy collaborating with others and sharing ideas
• Are interested in developing communication, leadership, and teamwork skills
• Are dependable, enthusiastic, and eager to learn
