Job description

To ensure that the wellness outreach needs of the Urban Indigenous community are addressed by implementing the wellness strategy at the local level to reduce family violence. Promote healthy lifestyles related to mental and emotional health supports, culture-based programming, and wellness.
The Wellness Outreach Worker is responsible for the coordination of services to meet the needs of the community within the mandate of the Healing and Wellness Strategy. Develop and maintain a workplan with goals to encourage those able to attend and benefit from available programming related to mental health wellness and addiction.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Social Services Education
  2. 1-2 years’ experience in Social Services field
  3. Knowledge of local Indigenous language and culture(s)
  4. Superior oral and written communication skills
  5. Confident group facilitation skills with multiple group members
  6. Knowledge and experience working with Indigenous people
  7. Knowledge and experience working within the Indigenous culture-based healing and wellness strategies
  8. Excellent computer skills including databases
  9. Ability to work as a member of a team as well as excel individually
  10. Superior ability to work to deadlines with minimum supervision
  11. Strong interpersonal skills
  12. Strong advocate for the needs and healing of Indigenous people
  13. Good time management and planning skills
  14. Sensitive and accepting to the Anishinaabe cultural medicines and ceremonies including smudging.
  15. Knowledge of community resources to support wellness strategies and advocacies.
  16. Valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle.
  17. Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
  18. Current First Aid/CPR and WHMIS
