List of Requirements
- High school diploma + a minimum of two years post-secondary education in a related field (early childhood education, psychology, education, child and youth care, social work, etc.)
- A minimum of 3 years experience working with neurodiverse children
- Knowledge of typical and atypical childhood development
- Knowledge of ɬaʔamɩn cultural practices
- Knowledge of ʔayʔaǰuθəm would be an asset
- Knowledge of program delivery and early intervention
- An acceptable Criminal Record Check, with Vulnerable Sector Check
- A recent TB Test
- First Aid & CPR certification – or willingness to obtain
- Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License and acceptable Driver’s Abstract – would be an asset
List of Duties
- Provide regular, direct, ongoing support to children and staff in the Nation’s early childhood programs, and possibly in school or after-school programs as directed by the ISCD Coordinator.
- Assist in the facilitation of regular sessions which gather children on their caseload in a group setting, providing activities to ensure children are interacting with peers, gaining social skills, and learning school readiness skills prior to entry into kindergarten.
- Participate in program planning.
- Provide personal care as needed (ie. toileting, dressing, etc.)
- Be responsible for the safe operational use and maintenance of adapted equipment.
- Maintain progress notes records and provide monthly summary reports.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Support traditional cultural teachings and practice for children to promote healthy physical, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual development.
- Provide supportive professional relationships with the parents, caregivers, and extended family of the children in the program.
- Attend and participate in meetings as directed.
- Attend in-service workshops and training as directed.
- Work collaboratively with the early childhood team.
- Participate as an active and supportive member of the early childhood team, assisting other staff in their roles as needed.
- Have awareness of the expectations and requirements of Childcare Program Licensing.
- Work within the ECEBC Code of Ethics.
- An additional $6.00/hr. wage enhancement will apply for someone holding a current ECEII or ECEIII certification.
