Job description

POSITION TYPE TERM, FULL-TIME, 37.5 HOURS/WEEKThe Canada Water Agency (CWA) regularly hires students through Government of Canada student employment programs such as the Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP) and the Post-secondary Co-operative Education/Internship Program (Co-op/Internship). Through the Lake Winnipeg Freshwater Ecosystem Initiative and the EcoAction Program, the CWA will hire Indigenous students to support a variety of freshwater related activities in support of the CWA’s mandate.Who can apply: Canadian citizens who are members of the following Employment Equity group: Aboriginal persons. Candidates must also be enrolled (or willing to enrol) in an approved student-work experience program.Note: Candidates must self-declare as Aboriginal as the area of selection is limited to Aboriginal peoples; as such, prior to appointment, hired candidates will have to complete and sign an Affirmation of Aboriginal Affiliation Form (AAAF).Available Positions: The CWA is looking to hire motivated students for the following (2) positions:Policy, Planning and Support StudentThis position will support the CWA’s Lake Winnipeg Freshwater Ecosystem Initiative (FEI)Location: Winnipeg, Manitoba (1 position)Duration: Four-month term (potential for eight-month term), full time, 37.5 hours per week (flexible hours may be considered)Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The candidate will provide policy, planning and program administration support for the delivery of the Lake Winnipeg FEI as well as related freshwater activities.
  • Duties may include, but are not limited to:
    • Analyzing, reviewing, summarizing and reporting on regional water issues;
    • Gathering, analyzing and synthesizing information from multiple sources to inform program implementation;
    • Supporting engagement with Indigenous partners in the work of the Lake Winnipeg FEI; and
    • Creating infographics and/or story maps to showcase program accomplishments.
Junior Program CoordinatorThis position will support the CWA’s EcoAction ProgramLocation: Winnipeg, Manitoba (1 position)Duration: Four-month term, full time, 37.5 hours per week (flexible hours may be considered)Duties and Responsibilities: Duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform general administrative duties to support team activities;
  • Produce program tools, forms, and other documents and prepare reports, including statistical reports;
  • Research, analyze, and prepare summaries and reports on program or environmental topics;
  • Manage program databases, support proposal reviews and process funded project payments;
  • Assist with information management;
  • Update program budgets.
Essential Qualifications and Requirements for All Positions: The successful candidates will demonstrate aptitude in the following areas:
  • Knowledge of freshwater issues in Canada.
  • Strong technical communication skills, ability to analyze and synthesize data. Experience with Microsoft-based programs (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Communicate effectively (orally and in writing).
Personal Suitability
  • Initiative, judgement, reliability and effective interpersonal skills.
Conditions of Employment
  • Candidates will be required to pass all relevant security clearances for the position to be staffed.
