Nechako Lakes School District gratefully acknowledges that we live, work, and play on the unceded, ancestral territories of fourteen First Nations representing the Dakelh, Nedut'en and Wet'suwet'en peoples. We are working diligently towards creating equity for our learners through conscious acts of Reconciliation.

The School District

Nechako Lakes is situated on the traditional unceded territories of fourteen First Nations encompassing the Dakelh, Nedut'en and Wet'suwet'en peoples. The school district encompasses five municipalities, the Districts of Fort St James and Vanderhoof and the Villages of Fraser Lake, Burns Lake and Granisle. This large area served by our school district has a population of just under 40,000 residents in the beautiful north central BC.

We serve 3,000 students in our standard schools and approximately 900 FTE at EBUS Academy, one of the largest online schools in British Columbia. Our region has affordable housing, welcoming communities and a lower cost of living than many other regions. Come and enjoy over 200 lakes, rivers and streams and an abundance of outdoor recreation at your doorstep.

At the Elementary level, the ISS Teacher delivers academic support to Indigenous students: liaising with school-based staff including teachers, counsellors, and administration; as well as collaborating with the Indigenous Education Department and other community supports. The ISS teacher will work with small groups as well as in full classrooms in a “push-in” model. The ISS teacher will also track data on engagements with Indigenous students using the AIMS system. The ISS Teacher will collaborate with other school staff in tracking data, including attendance and academic achievement of Indigenous students and work as part of the school team to develop and implement a learning plan.
