Qualifications

• Diploma in Social Work, Indigenous Studies or related field.
• At least 1 year of related experience.
• Understanding of local First Nation cultures.
• Driver's license and access to a vehicle.
• Proficiency with computers and MS Office.
• Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
• Ability to learn, share ideas and accept feedback.
• Strong planning and organizational skills with multitasking ability.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; presentational skills when required.
• Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Mentor and advocate to Indigenous students and families.
• Identify students at risk using Grad Coach data.
• Support academic achievement, graduation rates and credit accumulation.
• Coordinate with Elders and knowledge keepers for cultural teachings.
• Organize school community cultural activities.
• Report progress to Principal and Indigenous Education Manager.
• Participate in meetings and professional development.
• Assist with transitions and pathway planning.
• Engage staff, families and parents; coordinate communications.
• Organize and facilitate school community cultural activities.
• Coordinate Elders and knowledge keepers for cultural teachings.
• Research and promote potential programs such as pathway planning.
• Ensure robust transitions for students to post-secondary opportunities.
• Promote employment services and skills development (resume, references, etc.).
• Participate in meetings and professional development as part of the Board’s Resource Team.
• Contribute to the Indigenous Education Advisory Committee.
• Assist in running the Indigenous Youth Counselling.
• Report student success to the Board and Ministry of Education.
