Overview

POSITION TYPE TERM (6 Months, Oct 2025 – Apr 2026), FULL-TIME

The Manitoba Research Alliance in partnership with the Winnipeg Indigenous Executive Circle (WIEC) are seeking a Research Assistant to support an investigative study comparing government funding received by Indigenous and non-Indigenous non-profit organizations in Winnipeg from the Province of Manitoba under the current NDP Government. This research aims to assess disparities in funding allocation and explore decision-making processes within non-Indigenous organizations that primarily serve Indigenous communities. The Research Assistant will be mentored by and work under the supervision of the lead researcher and collaborate with the lead researcher, WIEC members, government stakeholders, and community representatives to ensure a rigorous research methodology and access to necessary data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct Literature Reviews:
    • Review relevant literature, reports, and policy documents related to government funding for non-profit organizations.
    • Develop an annotated bibliography to support the research framework.
  • Assist in Workshop Planning and Co-Facilitation:
    • Coordinate and support a research workshop with WIEC members and key stakeholders.
    • Assist in co-facilitating discussions and documenting key insights.
  • Draft Research Findings, Reports, and Proposals:
    • Summarize data and literature findings into research reports, policy briefs, and funding proposals.
    • Work closely with the lead researcher to ensure accuracy and clarity in reporting.
  • Coordinate Meetings and Workshop Logistics:
    • Schedule meetings and workshops, ensuring participation from relevant stakeholders.
    • Prepare agendas, take meeting minutes, and disseminate materials as needed.
  • Monitor and Track Project Activities and Timelines:
    • Maintain a detailed project timeline, ensuring key milestones are met.
    • Track research progress and communicate updates to the research team and WIEC members.
Working Conditions
  • This is a contract position for six months, starting in October 2025.
  • The role requires flexibility, including potential evening or weekend meetings as needed.
  • Some travel within Winnipeg may be required for stakeholder engagement.
