Qualifications

Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director, Indigenous Initiatives and Applied Research, the Coordinator, Indigenous Recruitment and Relationship Development is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering Indigenous recruitment outreach, supporting community relationship development, and contributing to institutional collaboration that advances Indigenous learner engagement and recruitment pathways. The incumbent serves as a representative of Loyalist College in both community and institutional settings, engaging prospective Indigenous students, families, communities, educators, and partners to provide information, strengthen connections, and support informed pathways to post‑secondary education.
The position supports a holistic approach to student success by contributing to prospective student engagement, transition supports, and relationship‑building activities that support recruitment and informed entry to the College. The role also contributes to planning, tracking, and reporting activities related to recruitment outreach, including annual activity planning, budget projections, and ongoing communication to support decision‑making and alignment with Indigenous Centre priorities.
The incumbent requires strong knowledge of Indigenous communities, educational pathways, and Indigenous ways of knowing, including understanding informed by Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe contexts, as well as a thorough knowledge of Loyalist College programs, services, and supports in order to effectively advise prospective students and contribute to community‑informed recruitment practices.
The position also contributes to recruitment events, student engagement initiatives, and collaborative activities that support the priorities of the Indigenous Centre and the College more broadly.
The incumbent will be expected to work some evenings and weekends in accordance with the Support Staff Collective Agreement.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and implement recruitment, outreach, and engagement strategies that promote post‑secondary opportunities to prospective Indigenous students, families, schools, communities, and partner organizations.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, schools, and education partners to support student recruitment, educational pathways, and community engagement.
• Plan, coordinate, and deliver recruitment activities including presentations, information sessions, campus tours, community visits, events, and the Indigenous Post‑Secondary Education Network recruitment tour.
• Provide prospective students and their families with guidance regarding academic programs, admissions processes, funding opportunities, sponsorship programs, student supports, and post‑secondary pathways.
• Support prospective Indigenous students in their transition to college by providing information, referrals, and connections to appropriate supports and services.
• Represent the Indigenous Centre and the College at community events, recruitment initiatives, committees, and working groups that support Indigenous education and student success.
• Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to strengthen recruitment efforts, student engagement, and information sharing across the institution.
• Coordinate the development, distribution, and evaluation of recruitment and promotional materials and communications.
• Monitor and manage recruitment activity budgets, track expenditures, reconcile corporate credit card transactions, and provide regular updates on budget status and resource requirements.
• Collect, analyze, and report on recruitment activities, community engagement efforts, enrolment trends, event participation, feedback, and key performance indicators to support continuous improvement and decision‑making.
• Develop and maintain recruitment communication plans and schedules to support prospective students throughout the recruitment, application, admission, and transition process.
• Contribute to the creation of a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally responsive environment within the Indigenous Centre.
• Support Indigenous student engagement initiatives, events, and activities that foster community, belonging, and student success.
• Provide intake and initial assessment support for students accessing emergency financial assistance and other support services, ensuring timely referrals as appropriate.
• Support students through the self‑identification and Confirmation of Indigeneity processes by providing information, guidance, and referrals in accordance with College policies and procedures.
• Respond to emerging priorities and perform other related duties as assigned in support of the Indigenous Centre's goals and objectives.

Qualifications

• A thorough understanding of Indigenous knowledge from the Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee nations. Knowledge from other First Nations considered an asset
• Completion of a two (2) Year Diploma in Social Sciences or Human Studies or related area
• Minimum of 3 years experience working with Indigenous students or communities, preferably in an educational setting
• Experience with design and delivery of programs, presentations, and resources for Indigenous worldview
• Knowledge of the Ontario Education System and Indigenous communities are essential
• Advanced computer proficiency and knowledge of an Aboriginal language are additional assets
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Strong organizational and multi-taking skills with the ability to work in a team environment and independently
• Valid driver’s license, clean driver’s abstract and the ability to travel extensively to visit Indigenous communities
• The incumbent identifies as being of Indigenous heritage including First Nations, Metis or Inuit (as a bona fide occupational requirement, under Section 24(1) of the Ontario Human Rights Code
