CA$56,453.00/yr - CA$81,844.00/yr

Hours: 35 hrs per wk.

Rate: $31.02-$44.97 per hour

Classification: 8 month Contract, full-time (9am to 5pm, Mon - Fri)

Location: 30 College St., Toronto

Position Summary

Reporting to the Holistic Intake Supervisor, the Peacekeeper will ensure a welcoming space for staff, community members, visitors, allies, partners and all who access our spaces at the 30 College Street facility. Acting as a guide, the Peacekeeper will provide support and information, as well, be the point person in the event of an emergency, alerting leadership and executing the agency’s emergency response.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet and provide logistical support to visitors, community members, etc.
  • Proactively build relationships with community members.
  • Answer community inquiries in a professional and positive manner, providing practical or emotional support when needed.
  • Documenting interactions in Caseworks; entering all case notes in a timely manner. Completing Incident Reports where necessary
  • Provide early response to situations that may occur.
  • Participate in the review of crisis response plan.
  • Work with the Community Response (Duty Response) team to develop and implement a Holistic crisis response approach.
  • Problem-solve potential complaints and alert the team, including management, on issues that require follow-up.
  • Be knowledgeable regarding the daily activities in the facility and other areas of the agency.
  • Respond to emails and other messages promptly
  • Other related duties and responsibilities as required.

Minimum Qualifications And Skills

  • Lived experiences as an Indigenous person with the ability to respect and share Indigenous protocols while also respecting the unique Cultural distinctions and variations found throughout the urban Indigenous environment.
  • Experience working within an Indigenous Child-Wellbeing setting would be considered an asset.
  • A solid understanding of and sensitivity to the experiences of Indigenous peoples in Canada, and the impact of the legacy of Residential Schools and the Sixties Scoop upon them is essential.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in the preparation of Agency Ceremonies and/or events ensuring that appropriate Cultural protocols are honoured and respected.
  • Respect for, and sensitivity towards, as well as knowledge and understanding of Indigenous Culture
  • Excellent communication both verbal and written.
  • Comfortable working with Outlook, Microsoft Teams and other Microsoft Office programs.
  • Experience working with Caseworks or another database system would be considered an asset.
  • The ability to multi-task and adapt to change in a fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Knowledge of NCFST programs and services.
  • Strong culturally grounded crisis intervention and de-escalation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills that focus on relationship building.
  • De-escalation training certificate an asset
  • Valid Ontario security guard license an asset
  • Please note that the successful candidate is required to complete a background check.

Work Environment

  • Lobby area, some out-of-doors service around 30 College, standard office environment
