Indigenous Environmental Field Liaison – Ontario

Our highly respected and successful Environmental Permitting and Management team has an expanding portfolio of work, built on technical excellence and exceptional service to our clients. We have a particular need for support on infrastructure, power, and renewables projects. We are looking for Indigenous Environmental Field Liaisons responsible for providing Indigenous perspectives on environmental field activities and integrating Indigenous Knowledge and values into Environmental / Impact Assessments. The role also involves supporting consultation and engagement activities alongside our Environmental specialists. Candidates must be able to travel, and lived experience is highly preferred. While our primary need is for candidates in Ontario, we will consider applicants nationally.

Our work encompasses delivering key projects throughout their lifecycle—from early assessment of constraints to strategic development of regulatory approvals, and compliance management during construction and operations. Our team collaborates within projects to gain social acceptance and manage our clients' commitments to the environment and sustainable development.

Your role within the team

  • Liaise and communicate with First Nations, Indigenous communities, and organizations.
  • Assist in developing and implementing Indigenous consultation and engagement strategies.
  • Support the development of field survey training programs tailored to specific First Nations or Indigenous communities within treaty territories.
  • Participate in field surveys related to soil sampling, groundwater and surface water monitoring, wildlife surveys, etc., based on experience and interest.
  • Complete detailed field notes, daily reports, forms, and checklists.
  • Gather Indigenous and Traditional Knowledge to incorporate into EA / IA reports.
  • Identify local protocols and guide field staff to ensure respect for territorial protocols.
  • Work outdoors in rough terrain, including hiking in remote locations, with a focus on safety and teamwork.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

The ideal candidate

  • Possesses Indigenous Traditional Knowledge and understands Indigenous worldviews.
  • Holds a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Planning, Geography, Environmental Science, Biology, or related fields.
  • Has 1+ years of experience working with First Nations and Indigenous communities, and in Environmental / Impact Assessments.
  • Experience in Environmental Permitting is an asset.
