Indigenous Child and Family Services Curriculum Writer

Who Are We?

Indigenous Perspectives Society: Centre of Excellence in Community Education (IPS) is a provincial organization that provides professional development to Indigenous child and family services in BC, to nonprofits, governments, municipalities, and corporations. Unique to our organization is our commitment to culturally relevant services. The Society works in cooperation with Indigenous child and family serving agencies to protect and enhance the well-being of Indigenous Peoples, First Nations and communities by reaffirming traditions, and through effective child and family service delivery that empowers the voices of Indigenous Peoples.

Purpose of the Position

The ICFS Curriculum Writer will play a critical role in developing, reviewing, and revising the training curriculum and materials for the Delegated Indigenous Child and Family Services Training (ICFST) program. This position ensures that the curriculum aligns with best practices, legislative requirements, and Indigenous pedagogies. The successful candidate will work closely with the Manager of Learning and Curriculum Development to design high-quality learning materials that reflect the evolving needs of Indigenous Child and Family Services (ICFS).

Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development:
    • Research, plan, write, develop, implement, and revise curriculum to reflect current practices, legislation, and regulations.
    • Center Indigenous knowledge and pedagogies in the curriculum.
    • Create learning objectives and instructional goals for new and existing curricula.
    • Prepare instructional materials for print and digital delivery, including detailed instructional procedures and key teaching points.
    • Develop engaging online and blended learning materials using interactive online learning tools.
  • Curriculum Evaluation:
    • Evaluate the current curriculum and recommend improvements based on feedback and best practices.
    • Shadow the delivery of the ICFST to identify areas for enhancement and revision.
    • Collaborate with key community partners and subject matter experts to ensure alignment, accuracy and relevance to current needs and practices.
  • Other Duties:
    • Prepare and conduct presentations on curriculum and training-related projects as requested.
    • Maintain clear and professional communication with internal teams and external collaborators.
    • Perform other curriculum-related tasks as directed by the Manager of Learning and Curriculum Development.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Social Work or Related Degree or demonstrated delegated experience.
  • Strong research and analytical skills using diverse methods and tools.
  • Work experience in a delegated child welfare position (MCFD or a delegated agency) is required.
  • Familiarity with legislation, regulations, and practice standards related to ICFS is required.
  • Demonstrated experience developing curriculum and instructional materials is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Moodle or other online Learning Management Systems (LMS) is an asset.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and knowledge of Indigenous Child and Family Services practices.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of Indigenous social work, including child welfare and social service provisions, including the levels of delegation in BC.
  • Knowledge and understanding of historical and social impacts of colonization and the child welfare system on Indigenous Peoples and communities.
  • Ability to design curricula that reflect Indigenous pedagogies and integrate multimedia tools for online and blended learning.
  • Proficiency in APA referencing and copyright considerations in curriculum development.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Proactive engagement in professional development, particularly in Indigenous education and technology trends.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and community partners.
