Job summary

A leading healthcare organization seeks a full-time temporary Birth Doula to provide emotional and physical support to women and their families during childbirth. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of Indigenous culture and the history of Indigenous Peoples in Canada, alongside skills in communication and interpersonal relations.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education and completion of a Birth Doula Program.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and basic knowledge of physiology of birth.
  • Ability to work independently and knowledge of Indigenous culture.

Responsibilities

  • Provide continuous emotional support and physical comfort for women and families before, during, or just after childbirth.
  • Act as a liaison to Elders and Traditional Healers as desired.

Job Description: Responsible for providing women, their partners and families with continuous emotional support, physical comfort and assistance in obtaining information before, during or just after childbirth. This may include very specific cultural practices that the birthing mother and/or couple wish to incorporate into their birthing experience. Act as a liaison to Elders, Knowledge Keepers and Traditional Healers as desired by women and their families
