Job summary

0.4 FTE Term Certain Inclusion Support Teacher Schedule is Monday and Wednesday

Effective September 8, 2026 to December 18, 2026 or return of the incumbent

Posting Close Date: August 28, 2026, 4:00 p.m.

This position can be combined with DSCS 26-27.004 Elementary Prep

Desert Sands Community School enrols approximately 275 students in kindergarten through grade 12, of which 57% are of Indigenous ancestry. Desert Sands Community School is located in the Village of Ashcroft which lies on the unceded and traditional territory of the Secwépemc and Nlaka'pamux First Peoples. The school's Action Plan for Learning guides the work of the school.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful applicant must have, or be eligible for, certification to teach in British Columbia and possess:

  • Inclusion Specialist - Diploma or Masters degree in inclusive/special education w/Level B assessment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with other teachers, parents, support staff, administration and outside agencies;
  • At least 5 years successful classroom teaching experience at the elementary level;
  • Successful experience establishing professional boundaries;
  • Knowledge of the British Columbia curriculum and core competencies;
  • Evidence of strong organization and time management skills;
  • Evidence of successful experience supporting students with social emotional challenges and strong behaviour management skills;
  • Understanding of and commitment to including trauma informed practice into their work;
  • Demonstrated experience supporting learners demonstrating vulnerabilities;
  • Significant experience supporting students one on one, in a small group and in the classroom;
  • Successful experience integrating local Indigenous culture and traditions into learning opportunities, or familiarity with and understanding of local Indigenous culture and commitment to integrate it into learning.
  • A commitment to and successful experience working collaboratively in a team setting and with classroom teachers and support staff;
  • The ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the greater community.

The salary range for full-time teaching positions within Gold Trail School District is $63,735 to $116,190 with placement in accordance with provisions in the Collective Agreement. The district offers a competitive benefits and pension package.
