Job summary

Serving the Saanich Peninsula located just north of Victoria, BC, the district has one of the highest graduation rates in the province and a student body that consistently scores well on annual assessment tests, thanks in large part to the dedication and efforts of our 900 teaching and support staff.

Position - Continuing Teacher

Assignment Type - Continuing

FTE/Point Time - 1.0 Point Time

Assignment will be both online and in-person

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education (Secondary)
  • Post-Graduate Diploma or Master’s Degree in Special Education including University course work including the following (or equivalent) courses:
    • Student Exceptionality
    • Assessment for Special Education
    • Collaboration and Consultation in Special Education
    • Behavioural, Social and Emotional Needs
    • Assistive Technology
    • Teaching Students with Developmental Difficulties
    • Differentiating Instruction/Inclusive Classrooms
    • Advanced Assessment and Intervention
    • Development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Five years of demonstrated successful classroom/Instructional Support teacher experience
  • Successful completion of Teaching and Learning Online course or demonstrated expertise and experience teaching in an online learning environment
  • Fully conversant with current research related to the integration of technology and appropriate pedagogy for distributed learning teaching and learning
Desired Characteristics/Attributes

  • Demonstrated use of highly successful instructional strategies in the classroom for secondary school age students
  • Ability to work closely as a member of a team
  • Effective communication skills, demonstrated through positive relationships with students, staff and parents
  • Demonstrated ability in online curriculum development and delivery in accordance with the Standards for K-12 distributed learning in B.C.
  • Demonstrated comfort/skill in communicating in person, by telephone or online with students and parents
  • Experienced in the use of educational technologies for teaching and learning, especially course management software, asynchronous and synchronous distance delivery software

Applicants who have not demonstrated education or experience in online teaching will be responsible for completing a 100-hour preparatory online course (teaching and learning online and building DL environments) that is recommended by SIDES.
