The South Shore Regional Centre for Education (SSRCE) promotes a culturally responsive pedagogy to provide an inclusive, diverse, equitable, safe, and healthy education that supports both personal and academic success for the 59,000 residents of Lunenburg and Queens Counties. This area covers 5,250 square kilometres and includes 23 schools.

Description

The High School Teacher is responsible for teaching and supporting students within the South Shore Regional Centre for Education. The teacher will work within the Inclusive Education Policy framework, participating in individualized program planning with school staff and families to maximize learning experiences for students.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Valid Nova Scotia Teacher Certification
  • Bachelor of Education - Secondary
  • University education in Math/Science or a minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching at least 50% Math/Science within the last seven (7) years, with positive performance appraisals and/or references
Desired Qualifications and Experience
  • Professional development in Math and Science
  • Experience teaching Math and Science, especially Grades 10-12
  • Excellent communication skills (written, oral, electronic)
  • Problem-solving and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate with school and inter-agency teams for early intervention, service coordination, and program planning
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and culturally responsive pedagogy
  • Knowledge of developmental trauma and its impact on learning and social engagement
  • Willingness for continuing education and professional development
  • Ability to develop, implement, and monitor individualized programs and strategies based on student needs
  • Maintain confidentiality as a norm
  • Experience in planning training and professional learning for students with behaviors of concern
  • Ability to work with diverse cultural and racial backgrounds
  • Valuing others' voices and contributions, and openness to constructive criticism
