Job summary

Aspect Biosystems is seeking a highly driven In Vivo Technician to join our In Vivo team in Vancouver, Canada. You will support the execution of preclinical in vivo studies alongside scientists advancing regenerative medicines.

The role requires a Diploma or BSc and at least 1 year of in vivo/rodent experience, with preferred UBC animal care training. You will perform dosing, health checks, necropsies, data recording, and SOP contributions.

Qualifications

• Diploma or BSc in a relevant discipline.
• At least 1 year of experience in in vivo research or rodent handling.
• Completion of UBC animal care training and lab rodent courses preferred.
• Comfort working with rodents in a research setting, with training provided.
• Ability to thrive in ambiguity and work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Participate in experimental preparation, setup, and takedown.
• Assist in executing in vivo study procedures with proper animal care.
• Handle animals (restraint, dosing via IP, SQ, IV, PO) and blood sampling.
• Perform health observations, supportive care, and report anomalies.
• Conduct post-operative care, necropsies, and tissue collection.
• Maintain records, room logs, health reports, and cage cards.
• Contribute to SOP maintenance and improvement for in vivo studies.
• Communicate findings through summaries and presentations.
• Manage inventories and facility consumables to support daily operations.
• Ensure biosecurity, cleaning, sanitization, and environmental monitoring.
• Follow SOPs, safety measures, and QA standards; perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

We are seeking a highly driven In Vivo Technician to join our In Vivo team in beautiful Vancouver, Canada. Reporting to the Scientist, In Vivo, you will support the execution of preclinical in vivo studies. You’ll be joining a company committed to developing regenerative medicines that deliver life-changing, functional cures for patients living with serious diseases.

Responsibilities

• Participating in experimental preparation, set up, and take down.
• Assisting in executing in vivo study procedures, ensuring adherence to proper animal care practices.
• Performing standard animal handling tasks, including restraint, dosing (IP, SQ, IV, PO), and blood sampling.
• Conducting scheduled health observations, assessments, supportive care, promptly report any observed animal anomalies and update online data spreadsheets.
• Performing post-operative care and monitoring.
• Carrying out necropsies and tissue collection, ensuring timely delivery of samples.
• Maintaining accurate records, including animal monitoring sheets, room logs, health reports, cage cards, autoclave logs, and other required documents
• Contributing to maintaining and improving standard operating procedures related to in vivo studies.
• Communicating findings and updates to internal teams through regular experimental summaries and presentations.
• Managing inventories and facility consumables to support day-to-day operations.
• Ensuring biosecurity controls, including cleaning and sanitizing the animal facility and equipment, as well as environmental monitoring.
• Following standard operating procedures, safety measures, and quality assurance standards for the animal facility.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

• Education: Diploma or BSc in a relevant discipline.
• Required Experience: At least 1 year of experience in an in vivo research or exposure to rodent handling.
• Ideal Certification: Completion of UBC animal care training and lab rodent courses (or willingness to complete training).
• Comfort with Rodents: Ability to work comfortably with rodents in a research setting (training and support will be provided).
• Thrive in Ambiguity: You are highly adaptable, agile, and poised when faced with change, ambiguity, and competing priorities.
• Collaborative: You thrive in a multi-disciplinary team environment and believe that we can get further, faster by working together.

The hiring range for this role is $50,000 - $60,000, annually. Our pay scales are based on market data to ensure that compensation is competitive and fair. Offered salaries will be based on a combination of factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience. For candidates who exceed role requirements, we are open to exploring above-range offers. Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at Aspect, team members also receive equity, a comprehensive benefits package, and support for continuous learning and career progression.
