Job summary

YMCA BC is seeking an experienced tutor to support a Grade 1 student with autism spectrum disorder through structured, evidence-based literacy instruction. The role requires Orton-Gillingham certification and comfort traveling to the Tri-Cities area for in-home sessions.

The tutor will deliver sequential, multisensory reading and spelling instruction, track progress, and maintain clear communication with parents. Availability for 2–3 hour sessions, 2–3 days per week is needed.

Qualifications

• Must have Orton-Gillingham certification.
• Experience working with students with learning differences.
• Strong communication with parents and ability to build rapport.

Responsibilities

• Assess student literacy needs and create an individualized plan.
• Deliver multisensory reading and spelling instruction using Orton-Gillingham methods.
• Support phonological awareness, decoding, encoding, and reading comprehension.
• Monitor progress and adjust instruction as needed.
• Provide regular progress updates to parents.
