Job summary

AMA - Alberta Motor Association is seeking an experienced lawyer to join the Legal Services - Litigation team on a 12-month fixed-term basis. The role focuses on insurance defence, claims litigation, and providing strategic legal advice to protect AMA’s interests.

You will engage in advocacy, case preparation, and collaboration with internal and external counsel to achieve favorable outcomes while upholding professional and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Qualified to practice in Alberta; active membership with the Alberta Law Society.
• 5+ years of insurance defence and claims litigation experience.
• Ability to independently manage a litigation file load and balance priorities under deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Manage insurance defence and claims litigation files from engagement to resolution.
• Conduct legal research on case law, statutes, and regulations; prepare summaries and opinions.
• Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents including briefs and memoranda.
• Represent AMA in legal matters, advocate positions, and negotiate settlements.
• Assess litigation risk and damages; advise on regulatory impacts and changes.
• Collaborate with Corporate Team/Insurance Group, management, and external counsel.
• Supervise and delegate work to legal assistants.
