The Opportunity

The International Medical Assistant position is designed for International Medical Graduates or Internationally Trained Physicians. It is ideal for individuals looking to gain knowledge of the Canadian healthcare system and actively pursuing medical licensing in North America. The International Medical Assistant works under the supervision of a physician, acting as a technician and assistant, serving as the "eyes and ears" of the doctor in the exam room.

Compensation
  • $17.70/hour, plus additional bonuses based on individual services.
  • Must meet training milestones in the first three weeks of employment, including all exams and certificates.
  • Following a 3-month probationary period, the International Medical Assistant is eligible for a performance review.
  • Post-review, opportunities to train in specialty programs (e.g., Diabetes Program, Travel Medicine, Allergy Testing, Foot Care, Wellbaby).
  • Additional bonuses per service/task in these programs, on top of hourly pay and basic bonuses.

Benefits: Vision, dental, medical, and paramedical services, with eligibility beginning at 6 months of continuous full-time employment.

What You'll Do

International Medical Assistants are fully trained on and responsible for:

  • Collaborating with physicians and healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Assisting in triage, taking patient histories, and conducting limited physical examinations.
  • Scheduling appointments, tests, and procedures to optimize clinic operations.
  • Coordinating referrals and follow-up care plans.
  • Applying scripts, scenarios, clinical skills, and EMR usage appropriately.
  • Maintaining inventory levels through daily stocking of exam rooms.
  • Ensuring a clean environment by sanitizing exam rooms and common areas.
  • Performing administrative registration tasks, including reception, scheduling, and payments.
  • Basic IT troubleshooting as needed.
  • Documenting patient encounters in real-time within EMR systems.
  • Preparing and updating patient charts.
  • Assisting with order entries, including prescriptions and diagnostic tests.
  • Supporting healthcare procedures such as wound care, suture removal, and specimen collection.
  • Assisting with minor surgical procedures and post-operative instructions.
  • Performing Pap examinations, specimen collection, and documentation under supervision.
  • Collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure seamless patient care and clinic operations.
  • Participating in team meetings, training, and quality initiatives.
  • Performing other duties as required.
What We're Looking For
  • A completed medical degree is mandatory.
  • Completion of MCCQE, USMLE, and/or NAC OSCE is an asset.
  • Previous residency interviews in the US or Canada are assets.
  • Recent medical experience (within last 5 years) is an asset.
  • Excellent English communication skills; additional languages are assets.
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada (Permanent Resident, Canadian Citizen, or valid Work Permit beyond 12 months).
  • Typing speed of 40 WPM for data entry.
  • Reliable, committed, and flexible with scheduling (days, evenings, weekends).
  • Willingness to work at multiple clinic locations.
  • Exceptional customer service and professionalism.
  • Enthusiasm, respectfulness, and a passion for ongoing learning.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, procedures, and patient care protocols.
  • Proficiency with EMR systems and relevant software.
  • Basic IT skills and computer familiarity.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team, adapting to changing priorities.
  • Prior clinical administrative experience is an asset.
