Job summary

Aecon Group Inc. in Canada seeks an IDD Director to lead and integrate all technical and engineering work streams across the full project lifecycle, ensuring compliant, high‑quality design delivery aligned with Aecon’s digital and BIM standards.

Reporting to the VP of IDD & Geomatics, you will drive resource planning, mentor a team, and promote an inclusive culture while coordinating across disciplines on complex civil projects in Canada, the U.S., and beyond.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years leading engineering and IDD functions in construction.
• Engineering degree or equivalent with civil construction knowledge.
• Experience across all project lifecycle stages and on-site work.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership across technical work streams from design to construction.
• Coordinate design management, digital engineering, and sustainability.

Reporting to the VP of IDD & Geomatics, the IDD Director will be leading and integrating all technical and engineering work streams across the full project lifecycle, ensuring compliant, high‑quality design delivery aligned with Aecon’s digital and BIM standards.

What You’ll Do Here

• To provide leadership, support and co-ordination across all technical work streams, during each stage of a project from design through to construction.
• Technical work streams may include but are not limited to; All engineering disciplines, design management, digital engineering, sustainability, engineering surveying, asset management and civil engineering.
• Ensuring that the design developed meets the technical specifications of the project as well as the applicable law, codes, and standards.
• Ensure delivery of IDD in accordance with Aecon’s IDD/BIM related processes and procedures and support future developments.
• Ensure the right resourcing profile for the IDD team on our projects.
• Ensure the IDD requirements set on the project support digital integrating across all project functions.
• Lead and mentor a team of managers and coordinators.
• Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives, and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging.
• Other duties as required.

What You Bring To The Team

• 10+ years of experience leading engineering and IDD Functions in the construction industry.
• Engineering degree or equivalent combination of technical training plus experience/knowledge of Civil Construction practice.
• Experience across all stages of a project lifecycle.
• Experience working within construction project environments.
• Experience of large complex infrastructure projects would be an asset.
• Strong understanding of design and construction phases and alignment with the Digital Plan of Works.
• On‑site construction experience is desired.
• Strong written & verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent customer service skills, a passion for problem ownership, and a customer‑first attitude.
• Proven experience in priority setting, multitasking, and working with minimal direct supervision.
• Ability to travel to site, mobile for projects.
• Be a champion of inclusion and diversity.
• Security Checks and Background checks required.
• Valid Driver’s license.

The expected pay range for this role is $170,000 - $200,000 per year

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
