Job summary

A regional health authority based in Victoria, Canada, is seeking a Registered Nurse with experience in Critical Care to provide direct patient care and improve quality and safety. Candidates must have registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives and at least 2 years of recent Critical Care experience. Skills in communication, organization, and physical capability to perform duties are essential. Advanced Cardiac Life Support is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years recent Critical Care nursing experience.
  • Ability to interpret arrhythmias with a passing score on the VIHA ECG Challenge exam.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support and CRRT are assets.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and provide direct nursing care to patients in the hospital or community.
  • Ensure continuous improvement in quality and safety.
  • Collaborate with the Nurse Manager and other health professionals.

Overview

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reports to the Nurse Manager, Department Head, or designate. Plans and provides direct nursing care to patients/residents in the hospital or in the community in accordance with the unit/program philosophy, competency guidelines, policies, and the BCCNM Standards for Nursing Practice in British Columbia.

Qualifications

Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant. Minimum 2 years recent Critical Care nursing experience and or an accredited Critical Care course. Demonstrated ability in arrhythmia interpretation as evidenced by a mark of 75% on the VIHA ECG Challenge exam. Advanced Cardiac Life Support and CRRT (continuous renal replacement therapy) are assets.
