A municipal government in Vancouver is seeking an Ice Skating Instructor responsible for supervising the rink and providing skating lessons to various age groups. Main Purpose and Function
The Ice Skating Instructor will be responsible for a variety of duties related to the supervision of the ice rink and its programs.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and implementing skating lessons for all ages (preschool, children, adults, seniors, etc.), assessing Learn to Skate participants’ skating skills and preparing progress cards, providing support to other team members and ensuring that activity areas and equipment are safe.

Selected candidates will be required to attend an on-ice evaluation session and interview which will take place on Saturday June 28th(10:15am – 2:45pm approx)

Shifts are typically during weekday afternoons and evenings, and weekends all day.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:

  • Completion of up to Grade 10 supplemented by training courses related to skating instruction
  • Standard or Emergency First Aid Certificate with CPR-C
  • Customer service experience is an asset

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Considerable knowledge of skating instruction techniques and skill progressions
  • Considerable knowledge of the hazards, related precautions, and safety regulations related to the work
  • Some knowledge of the operation of an ice rink facility
  • Knowledge of the Vancouver Park Board Learn to Skate program is an asset
  • Ability to assess and evaluate participants' skating skill proficiency and to maintain related class records
  • Ability to motivate students and provide a positive, safe and fun learning environment
  • Ability to tactfully and effectively deal with issues and complaints brought forward by facility users
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and work collaboratively with staff
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize

  • A Police Record Check is a requirement of the position. A clearance requires the absence of any criminal charges or convictions related to this position.
