Job summary

Edgett Excavating Ltd. in Cumberland, BC, is seeking a dependable Hydrovac Operator to support underground utility work and civil construction on diverse job sites.

You will operate hydrovac trucks, perform daylighting and trenching, follow safety procedures, complete inspections and logs, and communicate clearly with supervisors, crew, and clients.

Qualifications

• Valid Class 1 or Class 3 Driver's Licence with Air Brake Endorsement.
• Clean driver's abstract and ability to maintain insurable driving status.
• Experience operating hydrovac or heavy equipment in construction/utility environments preferred.
• Knowledge of underground utility locating and safe excavation practices.
• Ability to read utility locates, site plans, and construction drawings.
• Strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and professionalism.
• WHMIS and construction safety training, or willingness to obtain.
• Assets: OFA, Traffic Control, Ground Disturbance, Confined Space.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate hydrovac trucks and related excavation equipment.
• Perform daylighting, potholing, trenching, slot trenching, debris removal, and non-destructive excavation.
• Expose underground utilities while minimizing risk and damage.
• Conduct pre-trip inspections, hazard assessments, and daily equipment checks.
• Follow WorkSafeBC regulations, safe excavation practices, and company safety procedures.
• Maintain daily logs, inspection reports, and excavation records.
• Perform routine cleaning and minor maintenance of equipment.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, crew members, subcontractors, and utility representatives.
• Assist with general labour and construction tasks as needed.
• Represent the company professionally with clients and the public.

What You'll Do

Working Conditions
