Description

This full-time position working as part of the Water Resource team focusing on the delivery of hydrology and surface water engineering solutions as part of MEMS integrated environmental consulting services. This position requires a combination of office and fieldwork (70 Office/30 field) in a demanding consultative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to water resources aspects, including environmental assessments, permitting, engineering design, and water stewardship in multiple industry such as mining, oil & gas, and others.
  • Capable of designing of natural and engineered channels;
  • Data collection of water samples from various sources (e.g., rivers, lakes, groundwater) and analyze them for properties such as contamination.
  • Modeling and Forecasting: Use computer modelling tools (i.e HEC-RAS) to predict water supply and forecast events like floods, droughts, and snowstorms.
  • Supporting and/or lead hydrological and hydraulic analyses for river engineering, water management, and water supply plans as part of a team;
  • Supporting and/or capable hydraulic modelling of natural and engineered channels;
  • Hydrology data collection, including flow velocity, appropriate channel measurements, physical water parameters and characterizing aquatic sediments.
  • Research and utilize provincial and federal environmental guidelines, regulations, policies, and industry best practices.
  • Preparation of technical documents, written summaries, tables, graphs, and statistical analysis for use in project reports.
  • Compilation and interpretation of the data collected and technical report writing.
  • Working independently or in a team setting and the ability to make responsible decisions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Bring:

  • A relevant undergraduate degree in civil or environmental engineering, hydrology, geoscience, water resources or closely related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of directly related experience, preferably in a consulting environment. Focus on hydrotechnical engineering including hydrologic and hydraulic analysis or a related field is preferrable.
  • Holds a professional registration in the province/territory of work; if currently practicing outside of AB, eligibility to obtain professional registration within six months.
  • Have a proven track record as a project manager in a client facing role.
  • Must be able to meet the requirements of site access as dictated by our clients, this may include pre-access drug, alcohol and fitness testing, and
  • Possess a valid, non-GDL Class 5 Drivers license.

  • Able to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Ability to be self-motivated with a strong work ethic and be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary setting; and
  • strong writing and interpersonal skills, organizational abilities, technical competency and attention to detail.

Working Conditions:

  • Office environment that requires sitting for extended periods of time as well as field work.
  • Prolonged exposure to computer keyboards and computer screens.
  • Sometimes requires long hours of work. Occasional interruptions outside work hours and travel to other locations and the field are required.
  • Manual dexterity required to use computer and peripherals
