Job summary

Hatfield Consultants seeks a Hydrologist/Water Resources Specialist to join our Water Resources Group in North Vancouver, New Westminster, or Calgary. You will support field programs, coordinate data collection, and contribute to hydrology components of environmental management projects.

The ideal candidate has training in hydrology, hydrogeology, or climatology with field program leadership experience and interest in reproducible data science, safety, and team collaboration.

Qualifications

• B.Sc. or technical diploma in natural/environmental sciences with some training in hydrology or physical geography.
• Minimum two years of field program experience including hydrologic data collection or climate monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with Hatfield’s Health and Safety Plan, laws, and client safety protocols.
• Lead or participate in field programs for hydrologic data collection and monitoring.
• Mentor junior staff on equipment installation, data collection and monitoring activities.
• Maintain and calibrate equipment to meet field requirements.
• Compile and assess hydrologic, water use, water quality and other data.
• Support data management and analysis components of projects.

We are seeking a Hydrologist/Water Resources Specialist to join our dynamic Water Resources Group in North Vancouver, New Westminster, or Calgary. As part of the Hatfield team, you will support the coordination and execution of field programs, and support hydrology components of Hatfield’s environmental management projects.
Theideal candidate will have training in hydrology, hydrogeology, and/or climatology, andwill be experienced in leading hydrologic field programs that include station installation. This position has considerable scope for career development and advancement, and over time, you will support or lead the training of colleagues in reproducible data science.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with Hatfield’s Health and Safety Management Plan, the law, and client health and safety protocols.
• Prepare for, lead and/or participate in field programs required for hydrologic data collection and monitoring programs.
• When in the field, support the mentoring of junior staff regarding equipment installation, data collection, and monitoring activities.
• Ensure equipment is maintained and calibrated to meet operational and field requirements.
• Compile, manage, and assess hydrologic, water use, water quality, and other environmental data.
• Support ongoing quality data management and analysis components of assigned projects.
• Support reporting to clients and regulatory agencies (e.g., draft technical report sections and data summaries).
• Communicate technical information efficiently and effectively (verbal and written).

Education and Experience

• B.Sc. or technical diploma in natural/environmental sciences with some prior formal training (e.g., coursework) in hydrology or physical geography.
• Minimum two yearsof experience with field programs, including surface water or climate monitoring instrumentation or investigation.
• Ability and interest to undertake fieldwork in a range of locations and weather conditions, including working in remote locations, and on programs that may require camp stays.
• Comfortable using technology and a variety of environmental monitoring systems such as dataloggers and software packages.
• Project coordination, field project management, or other project management experience.
• Experience and interest in data management, compilation, and analyses.
• Attention to detail and an understanding of the importance of adherence to field standard operating procedures and good data collection.

Other Assets/Skills

• Ability to work as part of a team with varying levels of experience while maintaining a positive attitude.
• Ability to work in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and the willingness to work overtime in support of field programs.
• Must have the ability to drive a pickup truck, have held a valid driver’s license for the past three years with a clean driving abstract.
