Job description

Environment, Community, and Mine Closure
Extractive Metallurgy and Mineral Processing

SRK Consulting is an independent, international consulting practice, providing globally integrated consulting services to the international mining and metals sector.

We are seeking a Hydrogeological Modeler.

Description of Responsibilities:

The Canadian Groundwater Group currently has 13 staff with experience in physical and chemical hydrogeology and modeling. There are more than 25 hydrogeologists in SRK North America and more than 60 in SRK around the world.

This role will not only focus on groundwater modeling but also support the diverse needs of our hydrogeology, mining, geochemistry, and engineering teams.

This position will be based in our Vancouver office.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Groundwater Modeling: Lead and review advanced modeling practices for physical flow, contaminant transport and reactions, pore pressure distributions, and uncertainty analysis. Provide modeling support across various disciplines through engagement with geochemists, hydrologists, structural geologists, and geotechnical engineers.
  2. Project Involvement: Actively participate in all stages of mining studies, including preliminary economic assessments, feasibility studies, permitting studies (environmental assessments and mine permit applications), operational support, and research and development programs.
  3. System Characterization: Characterize and develop 3D numerical models of groundwater systems, with consideration for cross-disciplinary impacts and environmental, social, and financial risks.
  4. Communication: Effectively communicate complex scientific concepts in a clear and concise manner to clients, regulators, and stakeholders.
  5. Engineering Support: Contribute to engineering design studies and provide insights and recommendations for remedial options, in-situ treatment, engineering solutions, and site-wide water and load balance models.
  6. Field Work: Engage with hydrogeological, hydrological, or geotechnical field staff, and/or partake in field activities in a supporting role.
  7. Team Collaboration and Management: Work closely with team members across all levels, from junior to principal, to manage tasks and junior staff. Ensure project goals and timelines are met while preparing reports and presentations for both internal and external audiences.
  8. Opportunities for Growth: Collaborate with experts across various fields, enhancing your consulting career through continuous learning and professional development.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A minimum of a master's or higher degree in geology, geological/civil engineering, or physical geography, with emphasis on geology, hydrogeology, hydrology, environmental engineering, and geotechnical (rock) skills.
  • Technical proficiency in groundwater numerical modelling (finite difference and/or finite element – FEFLOW preferred).
  • Proficiency in coding and statistics.
  • Experience with geological modelling software (Leapfrog preferred).
  • Self-motivated with a desire to work both as part of multi-disciplinary teams and independently.
  • Able to work long hours in the field, tolerating remote and variable weather conditions.
  • Excellent oral and presentation skills.
  • Professional registration in BC or current eligibility to obtain it.
  • Valid driver’s license valid for use in Canada with a good driving record.
  • Currently eligible to work in Canada.

This position involves working in multi-disciplinary teams on a range of projects and may include international travel.

In return for considering a future with us, we offer:

  • An attractive compensation package.
  • Diversity of projects and clients within a non-hierarchical consultancy environment.
  • Opportunity to purchase shares in the company; the SRK Group is an independent group, owned by its employees.

Applicants should respond by submitting their CV online. The candidates under consideration will be contacted directly; no phone calls please.
