Job description

SYSTRA Canada is part of the SYSTRA group, an international consulting and engineering group, a world leader in the design of transport infrastructures. SYSTRA Canada is an engineering and consulting firm whose primary focus is to offer transportation solutions, whether for passengers or goods: feasibility studies of building a new railway line, increasing the capacity of the existing infrastructure, privatization of a railway.

Context

The ALTO project is a major infrastructure initiative in Canadian history, aimed at developing over 1,000 km of new passenger rail service between major urban centers, including Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City.

Missions/Main Duties
  • Serve as technical expert and project manager for hydrological and hydraulic studies related to railway projects, overseeing flood, erosion, and stability risk analyses, including hydraulic modeling and the design of structures such as culverts, bridges, retention basins, and bank protections.
  • Mentor and train engineering teams, ensuring technical quality and participation in field activities (surveys, inspections, measurements).
  • Prepare and validate technical documentation, including reports and service proposals, and coordinate closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and regulatory bodies.
  • Analyze the impacts of climate change on railway infrastructure, recommend adaptation measures, and contribute to technology watch and the development of innovative modeling and risk management approaches.
Profile/Skills

Education: Master’s degree (M.Sc. or M.Eng.) in civil engineering, hydrotechnical engineering, water resources, or a related field. Member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) and/or Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), or eligible for registration.

Years of experience: Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in hydrotechnical engineering applied to transportation infrastructure projects, including the management of complex projects.

  • Demonstrated expertise in hydraulic and hydrological modeling (HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, PCSWMM, MIKE, InfoWorks, etc.) and in the analysis of hydrometeorological data.
  • Experience in the design and sizing of hydraulic structures (culverts, bridges, detention basins, erosion protection, etc.).
  • Proficient in applicable provincial (MTQ, MTO, MELCCFP, etc.) and federal standards and guidelines.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills, both in French and in English*
