Job summary

North American Services Inc. (NASI) is seeking Hydraulic Shovel Operators to join our remote mining site team near Fort McMurray. Base pay can reach up to CAD 43.75/hour, with growth opportunities and shift flexibility across 12-hour rotations.

Work specifics include 6x6 or 14x7 schedules, accommodations not provided on site, and 9+ months duration with potential extension. Transportation is provided from Fort McMurray to site; overtime paid for extended hours and holidays.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years' experience operating 5500 or equivalent size hydraulic shovel.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in mining environment.
  • High school diploma, GED, and/or post-secondary education is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Operate hydraulic shovels ranging in size from EX2500 to EX8000 in a mining or heavy construction environment.
  • Complete pre-use equipment inspections to ensure safe operating condition.
  • Conduct field level risk/hazard assessments before tasks and as tasks change.
  • Assist with fueling and servicing of equipment and interact with supporting crews.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies, standards, and procedures.

NASI is seeking Hydraulic Shovel Operatorsto join our remote mining site team in the Fort McMurray area.

This is your opportunity to join one of the safest and largest contractors in the region.

For this role, NASI offers a base rate of up to$43.75/houras well as room for growth!

Where You’ll Be Working

  • Site: Syncrude-Aurora
  • Schedule: 6 x 6 or 14 x 7 (3 days/3 nights/6 off or 7 days/7 nights/ 7 off)- 12 hour shifts
  • Accommodations:Camp is not provided
  • Work Duration: 9 months +, may be extended
  • Tentative start date: March 18, 2026
  • Transportation: Bussing provided from Fort McMurray to site (before and after shifts)
  • Overtime:is paid for hours worked over 12 hours per shift, on statutory holidays, or for work on a day off.

Please note that this is a CLAC position and candidates working under NASI will be under the collective agreement.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Operate hydraulic shovels ranging in size from EX2500 to EX8000 in a mining or heavy construction earthworks environment (model types can include but are not limited to Hitachi and Caterpillar)
  • Complete pre-use equipment inspections to ensure equipment is in safe operating condition
  • Complete field level risk / hazard assessments prior to task and as task changes
  • Participate in the safe fueling and servicing of equipment
  • Interact with cleanup and hauling equipment
  • Interact with other contractor and client equipment
  • Ensure compliance to all company, client and legislated safety policies, operating standards, and procedures
  • Using adequate and suitable safety equipment, including all required PPE
  • Reviewing safe work plans/ hazard assessment with prior to job commencement and follow all requirements
  • Report any necessary or anticipated repairs to the maintenance team or supervisors immediately

What Makes You the ONE

  • Must have a minimum of 2 years' of experience operating 5500 or equivalent size hydraulic shovel.
  • Must have at least 2 years' experience in mining environment.
  • High school diploma, GED, and/or post-secondary education is considered an asset.

  • Provide a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and ability to provide a recent Driver’s Abstract
  • Valid CSO or BSO (Energy Safety Canada)

  • OHS Alberta Legislation Awareness (Energy Safety Canada)H2S Awareness (Energy Safety Canada)
  • Field Ergonomics (Energy Safety Canada)
  • Be subject to Random Testing at: Suncor, Suncor Fort Hills and Kearl sites
  • Undergo and successfully pass the following pre-employment testing:
    • Breath Alcohol Test
    • Urine Drug Test
  • Will receive a call from NASI to set up all required pre-employment testing
  • An email will be sent with all required New Hire Paperwork to be filled out
  • After all results and paperwork are received by NASI, candidates will be contacted by Site Admin to schedule orientation and confirm your start date and other site-specific details.
