Job summary

BJRC Recruiting is seeking a litigation associate for a well-established defence firm in Vancouver, BC. The role focuses on insurance defence and general liability matters, with opportunities to work closely with senior lawyers on complex files.

Hybrid work arrangement allows three days in-office weekly with two days remote. Ideal candidates have 3–7 years of experience, call to BC Bar, and a client-focused approach to long-term growth within the firm.

Qualifications

• Called to the British Columbia Bar with 3–7 years of litigation experience.
• Strong experience in insurance defence litigation, particularly general liability and personal injury matters.
• Experience independently managing litigation files and conducting discoveries, mediations and court appearances.
• Excellent legal research, drafting, written advocacy and oral advocacy skills.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
• Commercially minded, with strong interpersonal skills and an interest in long-term professional growth within a firm.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage insurance defence files including general liability and personal injury claims.
• Grow autonomy in litigation while collaborating with senior lawyers.
• Conduct discovery examinations, mediations, motions and court appearances.
• Draft pleadings, opinions, briefs and other advocacy materials.
• Develop strategies, assess liability and advise clients.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships.
• Participate in marketing and business development.
