Job summary

The University of Alberta is seeking a Finance Analyst to support post-award administration for research funding, primarily with CFI and related partners. The role combines in‑person work at Edmonton venues with remote tasks, reporting to the Manager – Institutional Programs.

Responsibilities include financial statement preparation, variance analysis, and sponsor reporting, using GAAP-aligned procedures and Microsoft Office tools to deliver timely insights for internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or equivalent in accounting/related field; accounting designation or active enrollment in a professional accounting program required.
• Minimum two years of financial experience in a research administration setting preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to manage time effectively.
• High accuracy, attention to detail, and timely decision-making; GAAP familiarity is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Prepares, signs off and submits claims to sponsors in multiple currencies reflecting project expenses.
• Prepares, signs off and submits complex financial statements to sponsors using consolidation and currency translation principles.
• Investigates and resolves discrepancies in budgets, revenue, expenditures, and project financial statements.
• Administers subgrants and assists with past due receivables; communicates with sponsors and internal teams.
• Prepares general ledger entries and ensures proper revenue recognition and reporting.
• Performs analyses and closes projects once terms are met and ensures compliance with sponsor requirements.
