Job summary

Black & McDonald, a family-owned company with over 100 years of experience in construction and facilities management, is looking for an HVAC Journeyperson to join our Service Division in Ottawa. The successful candidate will maintain, upgrade, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC equipment, contributing to a committed and collaborative team environment. Candidates must have a valid 313A refrigeration certificate, G1 or G2 certification, and a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Journeyman HVAC Technician.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid 313A refrigeration certificate.
• Valid G1 or G2 Certification required.
• Valid Ozone Depletion Prevention Certificate (ODP) is necessary.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine predictive planned maintenance duties and log.
• Complete work orders, deficiency reports and provide quality recommended repairs to clients within a timely manner.
• Experience installing, servicing and repairing HVAC, Refrigeration and Gas fired equipment.
• Understanding of building designs as it relates to building envelopes, HVAC, hydronic systems.
• Starting up and shutting down major building equipment seasonally.
• Handle, recover, store and document refrigerants.
• Test and repair electronic components.
• Ability to join an On-Call rotation.
• Other duties as required.

Black & McDonald Limited is actively seeking an HVAC Journeyperson for our Service Division to maintain, upgrade, troubleshoot and repair HVAC equipment. The individual would be required to join or be a member of UA787 Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Union.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• 3 or more years’ experience as a Journeyman HVAC Technician.

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Oil Burner Technician Certificate would be considered an asset.
• Valid ‘G’ Driver’s license.
• Knowledge of a variety of electronic, pneumatic and DDC control systems.
• Ability to read and work from Mechanical / Electrical drawings, HVAC/R schematics, line drawings, etc.
• Always maintain a professional demeanor with fellow employees and clients.
• A team player, committed to working in a quality environment.
• Available and willing to work varying shifts, weekends and holidays as required.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and work on a ladder or scaffold at various heights.
• Able to obtain Secret or Top Secret Security Clearance.
