Job Responsibilities
- Maintain and operate all comfort delivery systems, ice production, refrigeration, and medical air and vacuum systems across the Hospital campus.
- Maximize equipment efficiency and ensure optimal comfort levels for patients and staff.
- Perform daily system monitoring and log results, submitting logs to the Facilities office by noon each workday.
- Carry out preventative maintenance and routine inspections to ensure system reliability.
- Identify and execute repairs proactively to prevent equipment failure, focusing on detection and repair before breakdowns occur.
- Familiarize with system valving and shutdown procedures, demonstrating comprehensive knowledge within the first year.
- Maintain cleanliness of mechanical spaces and shafts weekly, ensuring ductwork is free of clutter.
- Adjust system controls seasonally for efficiency, preventing issues like coil freezing in winter.
- Calibrate and check equipment regularly to ensure performance, with minimal calls due to calibration issues.
- Manage inventory of repair parts to minimize downtime, and pursue alternative supply options when delays occur.
- Respond promptly to comfort system complaints, prioritizing patient safety and comfort, with monthly review of logs.
- Modify and optimize system performance in response to space redesigns, conducting tests to verify improvements.
- Complete work orders conscientiously and timely, and respond to emergencies and fire drills as part of the hospital's protocols.
- Respond to off-hours equipment failure calls as required.
- Understand and adhere to hospital emergency response procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 3 years of HVAC experience, preferably in a hospital or healthcare setting.
- Valid Massachusetts Department of Public Safety Refrigeration Technician License.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proficient in reading and writing English for effective communication.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with attention to detail, understanding the importance of safety and reliability in patient care.
- Physical ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Adherence to C.A.R.E. Standards.
