Job description

Schedule: Mon-Fri, day shift

Job Responsibilities

1. Maintain and operate all comfort delivery systems, ice production, refrigeration, and medical air and vacuum systems across the Hospital campus.
2. Maximize equipment efficiency and ensure optimal comfort levels for patients and staff.
3. Perform daily system monitoring and log results, submitting logs to the Facilities office by noon each workday.
4. Carry out preventative maintenance and routine inspections to ensure system reliability.
5. Identify and execute repairs proactively to prevent equipment failure, focusing on detection and repair before breakdowns occur.
6. Familiarize with system valving and shutdown procedures, demonstrating comprehensive knowledge within the first year.
7. Maintain cleanliness of mechanical spaces and shafts weekly, ensuring ductwork is free of clutter.
8. Adjust system controls seasonally for efficiency, preventing issues like coil freezing in winter.
9. Calibrate and check equipment regularly to ensure performance, with minimal calls due to calibration issues.
10. Manage inventory of repair parts to minimize downtime, and pursue alternative supply options when delays occur.
11. Respond promptly to comfort system complaints, prioritizing patient safety and comfort, with monthly review of logs.
12. Modify and optimize system performance in response to space redesigns, conducting tests to verify improvements.
13. Complete work orders conscientiously and timely, and respond to emergencies and fire drills as part of the hospital's protocols.
14. Respond to off-hours equipment failure calls as required.
15. Understand and adhere to hospital emergency response procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

1. At least 3 years of HVAC experience, preferably in a hospital or healthcare setting.
2. Valid Massachusetts Department of Public Safety Refrigeration Technician License.
3. High school diploma or equivalent.
4. Proficient in reading and writing English for effective communication.
5. Strong troubleshooting skills with attention to detail, understanding the importance of safety and reliability in patient care.
6. Physical ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
7. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
8. Adherence to C.A.R.E. Standards.
