New Afton Mine
Situated 10 kilometers west of picturesque Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.

About The Role
Schedule: 7 on, 7 off, 11-hour shifts, day shift only
Position Reports To: Electrical & Instrumentation Supervisor
Position Overview
Maintenance and reliability are at the core of all work completed by the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning ("HVAC") department. This means we strive to do the right things for the right reasons at the right time. As an integral part of New Gold’s maintenance team, the HVAC Labourer is responsible for ensuring all scheduled filter changes are completed daily and is required to do other labour-type tasks in all areas of the mine, including underground, process plant, and surface buildings.
Key Responsibilities
- Be a leader in safety and demonstrate a proactive approach to safety to ensure that everyone goes home safe and healthy at the end of each day
- Work with both the electrical and mechanical groups to maintain filter systems on various equipment
- Complete small maintenance repairs as needed
- Identify maintenance problems and maintain acceptable housekeeping
- Operate mobile equipment including but not limited to forklifts, aerial work platforms, and underground motor vehicles
- Dedicate to safety, equipment care, and the environment
- Ensure proper documentation through the warehouse is kept up to date for stocking purposes
- Perform general labour duties as required around the shops both on surface and underground
Qualifications
- Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent required
- 3-5 years of industrial site experience with exposure to fixed plant-type equipment
- High mechanical aptitude
- Experience in executing equipment isolation under Lockout/Tagout systems
- The position will require you to work off a ladder
The Preferred Candidate Will
- Be a motivated self-starter
- Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills which are imperative to working within our team environment
- Have the ability to adapt seamlessly to changing work and environmental conditions
- Have previous documented work experience working with underground, process plant, and/or surface industrial environments as well as maintenance systems.
- Experience in a mechanical or electrical work environment and/or position will be considered an asset.
Other Requirements
Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:
- Successful completion of pre-placement functional screen
- Provide proof of a valid driver’s license
- Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada
- Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements
Compensation
The anticipated salary for this position will be between $57,000 to $65,000. A competitive salary, performance bonus plan, and benefits will be provided. This is not a camp operation, and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel, and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
